An American academy educatee who was born with two vaginas has told how it ways she has DOUBLE periods - and could still get them while significant.

Paige DeAngelo, 20, has uterine didelphys, pregnant she was born with two fully-functioning reproductive systems - two uteruses, cervixes and vaginas.

She has 2 periods, meaning she could exist meaning in one of her uteruses and wouldn't know about it until she had other symptoms - or could get pregnant in both at the same time.

She had suffered with irregular periods - sometimes one every ii weeks - for years, just she wasn't diagnosed until she visited a gynaecologist for the showtime time, aged 18.

"I e'er had a very irregular menstruum but it was really two cycles switching on and off," she said.

"Sometimes it would be one time a month and other times it would be twice a calendar month, just a couple weeks apart.

"It was ever a gamble as to when I was going to get it, and that was all through loftier schoolhouse I couldn't programme for it.

"People's reactions when I tell them are always funny - information technology'south like stupor, and and then 'what did you lot say?'

'So many questions!'

"There's definitely marvel, everyone says 'I have so many questions'!

"I call back the biggest misconception is the anatomy of the two.

"People think they're two divide vaginas on the outside but that is not the case which is why I didn't find out for 18 years.

"Each 'side' is half the size of a normal vagina.

"It doesn't cause whatever problems simply it's definitely noticeable."

Speaking of the appointment where she found out, Paige said: "She didn't tell me straight away, but when I saw the wait on her face up I knew something wasn't right.

"We had no idea the severity of it."

'Gasped out loud'

The teen was told at that place was likely just some extra tissue, but was booked in for an MRI the following week.

"The person that gave information technology actually gasped and laughed out loud when they first saw it," Paige said.

"I was similar 'what the heck, what is that?', and they were like 'you accept two reproductive systems!'

"I had no idea. I honestly I didn't even process information technology right away.

"I idea information technology was kind of funny at first. I'd never heard of that, but then when I went dorsum to the gynaecologist and nosotros talked most what it entailed that that'southward when it kind of hit me."

Gamble of miscarriage

Paige'southward condition puts her at a much higher chance of premature births or miscarriages, as her uteri are much smaller than usual.

She was told by a dr. that if she wanted to have children, she'd probably have to accept a surrogate.

The educatee at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, said: "I was solitary when I was driving back and I was just bawling my optics out.

"That was so heartbreaking to hear.

"I wanted to accept a hereafter where I grow up and take a large family."

She remains optimistic and has found customs with other women, and mothers, who live with uterine didelphys.

"I'm in a Facebook support grouping with girls that have the condition and a lot of them take ane kid every five miscarriages," she said.

"It's disheartening, but I'thousand kind of glass one-half full person - the fact that people accept had kids is what keeps me going."

Her diagnosis too provided an explanation for Paige's irregular menstrual cycles that she'd been suffering from since puberty.

Paige says she is often bombarded with questions about her sex life, and has to assure people that at that place are no issues.

"I have a fellow correct at present and everything works in that sense!," she said. Her boyfriend, Hugh Hinton, 20, is as well a student.

Paige started her TikTok channel, @paige.deangelo, to educate people who accept questions about her status and she now has over 300,000 followers.

"I've definitely reached a lot of people from my TikToks which has been pretty awesome, also some of the weird, creepy comments which I definitely expected by talking about my vagina," she said.

"A lot of girls who have the same result DMed me saying they felt so lone this whole time.

"'A lot of girls who accept the same upshot DMed me saying they felt so alone this whole time.'"

"Being able to bring all those people together was the reason why I did this - I knew I felt really alone and really scared when I found out.

"I'grand glad I've created a safe infinite for other females to reach out for help."

She has since been able to control her irregular periods with the birth control pill.
